Dennie Oxley Has Some Explaining To Do

by: finifinito

Fri Jun 26, 2009 at 16:53:44 PM EDT

This just kind of speaks for itself:
A former Democratic Indiana state representative was found apparently intoxicated at a gas station early this morning and avoided arrest by falsely telling police he was a lawmaker serving during the special session, which would grant him immunity.
Police found Dennie Oxley, 38, at the Downtown Citgo in the 400 block of East Ohio Street about 1 a.m. today. According to a police report, he smelled heavily of alcohol, his eyes were glassy and bloodshot, and his speech was extremely slurred. He was standing a few feet away from Kristin Dowlut, 21, who was lying face down on the gas station parking lot, apparently unconscious.

Classy
According to the police report, a witness who works at the gas station told police he saw a taxi cab drop off Oxley and Dowlut and later noticed Dowlut on the ground but didn't know how she got there. The gas station attendant said he went outside to try to help the female and tried to get Oxley to help her, but Oxley responded that he was not going to touch her.
Dowlut was transported to Wishard Memorial Hospital. Police did not arrest Oxley, according to the report, because of immunity during the General Assembly session.

[smacks forehead] I think I am having a Maalox Moment. Why is this law still on the books? This is such a bad law, it creates a class of citizens above the law!

And what the hell was Dennie Oxley thinking? This story raises more questions than it answers. Who was the girl? What were they doing that resulted in her falling unconscious face down into the pavement? I pray that Oxley gets whatever help he needs to deal with whatever life situation he finds himself in because there is clearly a problem that needs addressing.

Why I support Pam Hickman House District 87

by: arnie

Sun Sep 28, 2008 at 14:23:50 PM EDT

On the web: www.pamhickman.org

St. Francis Neighborhood Health Center:  another project supported by Pamela Hickman.

The sisters of St Francis realized in the late 1990's that more and more patients were showing up in the emergency room and sometime for the same compliant without taking prescribed medications.  The problem was a growing population of uninsured patients who could not afford their medications or regular doctor's office visits.  It did not take much convincing of the St Francis family to agree that this was in line with the St. Francis mission.

To get started, money needed to be raised.  Pamela Hickman, wife of Cardiologist Dr. Buzz Hickman, stepped up to help lead this campaign.  Some money was raised, building was renovated and The St Francis Neighborhood Health Center was born.

The Medical Director, Dr. Mercy Obeime, will tell you that it was not even six months after the Clinic started before she realized that the complexity of the patients and the degree of resource limitation of the patients needed immediate expansion of the services provided.  She immediately went to Pamela Hickman.  She described her vision of the clinic to Pam not knowing that this casual discussion would change the life of so many.  When talking about the role Pam played in the clinic, Dr Obeime stated, "If what I have done in the clinic has made a difference, then Pam Hickman deserves most of the credit.  From that first conversation to this day, Pam has been there, usually behind the scenes, encouraging me and making sure we have what we need to do the work that needs to be done to care for so many."

Twelve years later, the center continues to serve adults and families living near its facility at 234 E. Southern Ave., but the scope of the care and support the current staff provides goes far beyond what anyone could have imagined.  "During the past 12 years, I have watched the clinic grow from three paid staff members and volunteers to a staff of more than 20. I am thankful for the support of the St. Francis family, the Wishard Advantage Program, the state health department and other agencies and donors-with their support, we have served thousands of patients," said medical director Mercy Obeime, M.D.

Associate Medical Director, Dr. Aasha Trowbridge, says this of Pamela Hickman "I  had no idea who Mercy referred to when she said one day, she  needed to call Pam to see if she can help us. But as soon as she told me she was Dr. Hickman's wife I was not surprised about anything Mercy told me.  Today, of all the specialists we refer our uninsured patients to, no other specialists sees as many or as complicated patients as Dr Hickman's group.  As though this was not enough, they always call us asking to see if there is any thing else they can do to help."

This is the kind of rich leadership Pam Hickman will bring to the Indiana House Representatives in District 87.  This kind of leadership has been lacking the last six years in District 87.

"The voters who live in Washington Township, Hamilton County and Zionsville deserve better accountability in the Legislature. I will bring this same fiscal responsibility to the State of Indiana as I did with the Neighborhood Health Care Clinic. A vote for me on November 4th will be a vote for improved government."

Pam Hickman Makes A Move in IN-87

by: finifinito

Mon Jul 14, 2008 at 14:58:55 PM EDT

(I'm a sucker for on-the-ground reports. - promoted by Thomas)

I gotta say I agree with this:

"I want to suggest that the old theory that Labor Day is the start of the fall campaign is yesterday's news.

I say that the weekend of the 4th is the new official start.  Sure, Mitch Daniels began TV commercials long ago, but Jill Long Thompson just hit the campaign trial for real.  Its joined!

Wait any longer and you're lost."

- Jim Shella Blog, July 9th, 2008

The ability of a candidate for public office is often shown in the manner that they interact with the public. Events such as CarmelFest, held last week, was a great opportunity for Pam Hickman to show off her ability to listen to future constituents and work with them on the issues. It is inherent in her belief that she works for you, not the other way around.

My crew caught Pam Hickman, the Democrat running in Indiana House District 87 which covers the far northside of Indy, parts of Carmel and Zionsville, while she was connecting with voters enjoying the atmosphere at CarmelFest, one of the largest outdoor festivals in the district. You will see in the video how engaging Pam is with potential voters and future constituents.

Pam is waging a vigorous battle in a formerly uncontested Republican district and has the determination, the will and the wits to unseat Cindy Noe, an enemy of teachers and students everywhere in Indiana. Pam has put together a fine team to take on the Republican machine that thinks it owns her district.

Pam is an owner of Patora Jewelers in Indianapolis, a business she and her partners built from scratch in the early 90s. She is a former teacher at the Indiana School for the Deaf and has a special education background before marrying Dr. Buzz Hickman and opening Patora Jewelers.

Pam wants to ensure every child in Indiana gets a great public education. Having been a teacher, Pam understands the educational industrial complex and can help navigate the murky waters of education policy and funding with aplomb.

To find out more about Pam Hickman, visit her website at www.pamhickman.org. Pam will make a great representative for her district and is a solid Democratic candidate vying to take another seat in the Indiana House this November. We have a field of fantastic Democratic candidates this year, and in the coming weeks I will be introducing you to some of the other great candidates my team and I at Layman Media are working with this year.

Cal Thomas ignores Bush presidency, challenges Obama to see evil

by: mikeyc252

Wed May 28, 2008 at 09:48:32 AM EDT

I stumbled across this gem in the Indy Star this morning...
OBAMA: SEE NO EVIL
By Cal Thomas
Tribune Media Services

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is the polar opposite of John F. Kennedy.

Judging from recent comments, Obama apparently would pay no price, bear no burden, forsake any hardship, support any foe and oppose any friend that wished to pursue liberty. Kennedy understood that evil exists in the world. He saw it in World War II as his generation defeated the evil that gripped Europe and Japan. And he witnessed it as president when Nikita Khrushchev approved the building of the Berlin Wall and the installation of Soviet missiles in Cuba, acts that flowed from Khrushchev's perception that the young president was weak and inexperienced.

Obama thinks he can negotiate with evil and transform evil into something else. Initially his foreign policy platform was a naive pledge to meet "unconditionally" with the leaders of Iran, North Korea, Syria, Cuba and other nations dominated by dictators. In recent days he has changed his tune somewhat. He would still meet with the heads of these mini evil empires without preconditions, but "there must be careful preparation. We will set a clear agenda."

This leads to an important question: On what basis does a free nation negotiate with nations that are not free? Does Obama expect leaders who got where they are by undemocratic, even violent means, to embrace press freedom, religious liberty, political pluralism and rights for women? What would evil leaders demand of him? Any concession given to dictators, who are not known for keeping their promises, would surely result in the United States being taken less seriously and contribute to the undermining of our national security.

In his recent speech to the Israeli Knesset, President Bush pointedly noted that evil cannot be accommodated, negotiated with, pampered, or appeased. It must be opposed and defeated.
Obama's "strategy" for dealing with evil is the progeny of a secular age that sees everything bad as curable through counseling, good intentions masquerading as wishful thinking and/or pharmaceutical intervention. Prosperity and a sense of entitlement have dulled our senses to what evil looks like. These days, evil is the political party to which you don't belong and the ideology to which you do not subscribe.

Evil has a definition. Dictionary.com calls it: "morally wrong or bad; immoral; wicked." There is a presumption contained in this definition. It is that a standard exists by which evil (and its opposite, good) may be judged. Too many of us have been taught in government schools and by contemporary culture that such notions belong to another, less sophisticated era. In the Internet age "evil" has become extinct.

Obama's only foreign policy strategy seems to be diplomacy, not the defeat of evil. Such an approach when not supported by a credible threat of military power is bound to encourage more evil, not less. Obama debunks the value of experience, claiming the experience of President Bush and John McCain got us into the lengthy Iraq War. That war didn't start in Iraq and it won't end there, even if our objectives are achieved. Those objectives are closer to being realized than they were a year ago, but Obama and his fellow Democrats cannot acknowledge progress because they are preoccupied with victory at the polls more than victory over evil.

Recently, The Washington Times carried a story by Rowan Scarborough that quoted intelligence officials who believe terrorist attacks could occur in the early month's of the next president's administration. Terrorists attacked in February 1993 just two months after Bill Clinton's Inauguration and again on Sept. 11, 2001, less than eight months after George W. Bush became president.

The central question for voters ought to be this: who do we want in the White House should another terrorist attack occur; one who seeks to negotiate with evil, or one who is a warrior and wants to crush it?

Ah, good old warmongering. No better way to get started in the morning.

First I'll start off with his lack of sources. Cal Thomas follows in the paths of media pundits by attempting to analyze Obama from one quote. I still don't see what's wrong with talking to Iran. Of course, the Neocons might be sore after the Iran bombing option got uncovered.

Next, he says Obama blames McCain's and Bush's war decisions...on their experience. We don't even get a quote for this one, Lord knows what Obama actually said. Obama usually chooses his words pretty carefully, and that doesn't sound like something he'd say.

Next...what is evil? Well, according to Thomas, it's "morally wrong or bad; immoral; wicked." That's right, now we need to wage war on sluts, lying and obesity too. Just because the almighty US doesn't agree with someone does not make them evil.

A government can't fight evil. They can fight threats. Who/what are threats to the US? Bears? Iran?

Thomas asks if we want a president who negotiates with evil. Maybe he should ask if we want one that can recognize what's evil and what's actually a threat the US can deal with.

The candidate is Barack Obama and the threat is world policing and the eternal warfare state.

Schellinger ? same presenter from CSO at School 84 summer '05?

by: janetruth

Thu Mar 29, 2007 at 09:47:20 AM EDT

Hello:
Was anyone else listening to Schellinger at School 84, community meeting, summer 2005?
I'm a newbie at this open talk, but sometimes you just have to say something, don't you? [& well, my son said if I want someone to talk to about this, I needed to contact the this man's opponent]. I asked others who were there,& today, googled JS, CSO, School 84, Bingham and JS architect governor. WOW!  Agreed, he sure is  polished, smoothed, perceived as Mr. public agreement, nice suit, buttoned down, etc, DIDN'T SWEAT! Is it true when it is too hot, sometimes you can drink in something so cold your brain feels like it is freezing? IS it really? Do smoothies numbs our minds?

Yes, I was there, School 84, summer 2005. HOT does not describe it. Misery. NOT A FAN ON.  the stage was set.  Shellinger's performance?
Well, maybe not everyone remembers the "Trouble in River City" routine in that old musical "The Music Man"?  Perhaps fell a bit short of a true Broadway performance, but JS's call to arms was captivating:  "Is there anyone here who cares about children?"
"Anyone here who cares about education?"  "Raise your hands"
NO exaggeration.
JS's big 3 selling points I remember to this day:
  JS stated he wanted A PLACE TO WORK OUT;
  JS scattered his monologue with comments  prefaced:  "my wife says I'm too ....";
& the piece de la resistance,  "in a few years, bussing will end, & WE  WILL  CARE!  School 84 will be our neighborhood school!"

My response/advice:  join a gym, buy some running shoes,  don't ask me to agree to yet another property tax increase to cover your desires, or at least don't tell me about it when you want my vote;

"my wife" is cool on whatever, I don't use her name to make a point;

most of all, the bussing comment remains the most frightenly racist vision of today and tomorrow to my recollection.
We will care?
