Research 2000: Schellinger pulls even with Long Thompsonby: ThomasFri Apr 04, 2008 at 18:13:23 PM EDT |
| A little under a month ago, it was a 26-point advantage for gubernatorial candidate Jill Long Thompson. Today, the lead is down to one, at least according to a new Research 2000 poll done on behalf of WISH-TV and a few other media outlets.
The results, via the South Bend Tribune:
400 likely voters -- MoE 5% 3/31-4/2 42% -- Jill Long Thompson 41% -- Jim Schellinger 17% -- Undecided Those numbers point to the "diversity of support that Jill and her campaign are receiving," said Jeff Harris, communications director for the Long Thompson campaign. This seems to confirm Tuesday's SurveyUSA poll, which showed a Schellinger surge. Of note from the WISH-TV report? Jill Long Thompson had some pretty negative things to say about her opponent, accusing him of "making millions off of taxpayers." Schellinger said he was disappointed to see that sort of talk coming from someone on his side of the ideological aisle. Will Schellinger continue to rise in the polls? Does this signal the start of an all-out negative campaign against Schellinger on the part of Long Thompson? A lot of questions, to say the least, but the one thing we know for sure is that the next few weeks are going to be interesting. |
